Digital Flash Photography - Learning the Basics!


In this video series, digital flash photography is demonstrated by professional photographer. The video covers topics such as camera shutter speeds, aperture settings, sync speeds and key shifting.


This video tutorial explains the different ways to use flash photography by setting certain camera shutter speeds and aperture settings. The video also covers sync speed and key shifting Shutter speed is the amount of time that camera is open when taking a photo. Shutter speed is measure in fractions of a second. The larger the demoninator, the faster the shutter speed. For example, 1/100 is much faster than 1/10.

Sync speed is basically the fastest shuttle speed used by a camera with a flash. Sync speed is important because it helps stop action in its tracks. In order to stop action with sync speed, the shuttle must be set above 1/500. Also, a faster sync speed may help to balance sunlight. You may find your cameras sync speed in your cameras user manual. The default sync speed is 1/200 of a second.

Key shifting is a term used by using your shutteron your camera to show more ambient light, by slowing down your shuttle or speeding it up.
